Jimmy Spencer winning this race (and Talladega a few weeks later), raised a few eyebrows. Junior Johnson (winning regularly with Elliott) was poised to lose McDonald's sponsorship at the end of the season. Some feel Spencer got "The Call" this on day. We'll never know.

say what u want, jimmy spencer could drive a car, this was the best equipment he'd ever been in. other than the 41 car with ganassi, and he was quick in most races in that car b4 leaving for the 7 car
