That's a stupid argument. Lets set aside the fundamental nature of religion, which requires it's followers to shove aside reason, and evidence in favor of blind faith. And, coast right to where I tell you, that if religion weren't the thing responsible for this, what ever else was would be met with the same resistance. Faith, at the expense of truth is not worth the price.

The good of religion does not out weigh it's ills. Historically religion has across the board hampered scientific pursuit, engaged in dramatic displays of bloody genocide, and enjoyed, and still enjoys a position of supposed infallibility. You will have to forgive me for not respecting the beliefs of people who are actively trying to kill me, somehow I find myself getting rather defensive about it.
