After waiting for more than 5 years, I finally got back to The PHILIPPINES for a Two-Week VACATION.
Though It was a long journey from Toronto's Lester Pearson Airport to Manila's Ninoy Aquino Airport with two stopovers (in USA & Japan) , it was safe and enjoyable flying with Northwest Airlines.
QUEZON CITY also known as CITY OF STARS is my Birthplace so it is just Right to have QUEZON CITY as my First Destination. it was really nice to be back in QUEZON CITY.
QUEZON CITY (Filipino: Lungsod ng Quezon), is the former Capital (1948-1976) and the Most Populous City in the Philippines. Located on the Island of Luzon, QUEZON CITY (Popularly known to Filipinos as simply QC) is one of the cities and municipalities that make up Metro Manila, the National Capital Region.
The City was named after MANUEL LUIS QUEZON, the former President of the Commonwealth of the Philippines who founded the City and developed it to replace Manila as the country's capital. QUEZON CITY is not located in and should not be confused with QUEZON Province, which was also named after the President.
Like other cities in the Philippines, QUEZON CITY is governed by a Mayor and Vice Mayor elected to three-year terms. The Mayor is the Executive Head and leads the city's departments in executing the city ordinances and improving public services. The Vice Mayor heads a legislative council consisting of 10 members. The council is in charge of creating the city's policies.
QUEZON CITY, being a part of the Metro Manila region, has its Mayor in the Metro Manila Council headed by the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA). This council formulates development plans that seeks to solve the problems and improve the conditions in the metropolis.
QUEZON CITY is divided into 142 Barangays (the smallest local government units) which handle governance in a much smaller area. These Barangays are grouped into four congressional districts where each district is represented by a congressman in the country's House of Representatives. Having been the former Capital, many government offices are located in the city, including the Batasang Pambansa, the seat of the House of Representatives, which is the lower chamber in the Philippine Congress.
QUEZON CITY has several major Educational Institutions. Three of the most well-known, noteworthy Universities - the Ateneo de Manila University (AdeMU) and the country's National University - The University of the Philippines (UP), Diliman - are both located in the City.
In 1965, the First University for Women Founded by the Asians called The Philippine Women's University (PWU) had established its co-ed Campus along EDSA (Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue) to offer undergraduate and vocational courses to residents of QUEZON CITY and nearby cities.
In the late '70s, the strong request from the working professionals had prompted PWU to expand its course offerings to include graduate courses, computer and continuing education courses.
