A small phone with big performance. We take a look at the phone, its specifications, start-up time, software, browser, video playback, how the Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray st18a performs in direct sunlight and a list of small things to keep in mind.

Running Android Gingerbread 2.3, an 8MP camera with autofocus & LED flash, an awesome Bravia mobile display, 1.0GHz single-core CPU, 512MB of RAM and 1GB of internal memory, let's see if good things come in small packages.

  • Can any nice people out there answer me this? :

I don't have a smartphone and fancy this Sony one and Nokia Lumia 710.

When the guy use Youtube on the video, does he use an app from Youtube or he just browses Youtube on the phone browser?

If he uses app from Youtube, does a Youtube app support both Android and Windows Phone 7.5 OS?

    Thanking in advance

  • @beavertown2006 Hey there! All Android devices come pre-loaded with a YouTube application. The phones *are* capable of playing Flash content, so one could go to YT.com and watch embedded videos, although that isn't as efficient (or as fast) as the dedicated app. As for Windows Phone 7.5, YouTube content is played using an application as well. Cheers!

  • Would love to know, can the qwerty keyboard be turned off n use number keypad for typing..? I dont get on with qwerty unless its for my laptop or ipad - which are not small.. Lol

  • @rite17 Hi! I just checked and YES, you can! If you go under "Language & Keyboard Settings" then "International Keyboard" you can change the portrait keyboard to either "Full" or "Phonepad". Cool! Thanks.

  • Can someone tell me if you touch the volume rocker on the side if it displays the time?

  • @dan073ebschannel Hi, good question! I just checked, and no, it will not. The only way to display the time/lock screen is to either press the power button on top of the phone, or the "Home" key at the bottom-front. Cheers!
