To download an mp3 file of the accompaniment, go to www.steveparkhornmusic.net. This is a fun, flashy concerto for a good horn player. Subscribe! I will be adding more solos on a regular basis. I teach horn at a University and my goal is to create a video library of some of the best horn solos for my students and others. Also let me know if there is something you would like me to record.

  • My horn playing has suffered greatly since I got braces. It seems no matter how much I practice, I am still not at the level I was prior to being braced. What should I do?

  • @brassvirtuoso Braces can be a real challenge. When I had them I got short strips of wax and pressed them into the braces on my front teeth. I did this every time I played for 2 and 1/2 years. But it really helped me. The day I got the braces off, everything was instantly better.

  • Just out of curiosity from one horn player to another, are you usually standing when you make these videos, or do you sit down sometimes?

  • @Chrisgoing I stand for everything except some of the Fripperies. I usually stand when I practice as well.

  • is the hand strap you use in this video easily obtainable? i feel like i need a little more stability...

  • It's called a Clebsch strap. You can search for it online.

  • Bravo! Mormon 101 heard that "those high B's were a little pushed". I however did not. You are doing great work on here in making the most of what you have. I mean that in a good way. I don't know what prerecorded music your using but I know that it is not easy to fit into it. What do you use?

  • Put less staccato on the notes in the second part of the first page, notes are slurred with a staccato over then which should be a light tongue , but over all good playing, those high B's were a little pushed

  • see braces aren't that terrible, i had them and they actually helped me play higher. and getting them off isn't that huge of a problem. just practice helps

  • @brassvirtuoso Actually I just got braces 5 months ago & play horn. All I can say is practise applying as little pressure as you can. You don't have to wear wax every time you play, you have to let the inner tissue harden up around the areas you play. However, you can choose to apply wax, up to you.

  • So I have a little less than a month to learn this for an audition, and I'm getting my wisdom teeth taken out during this time too. This should be fun!

  • Love it! You're an amazing player. I hope to be as good as you someday. I would very much appreciate it if you would record the solo I'm playing this year. I'm playing the Richard Strauss op. 11, please. Thanks :)

  • Would it be possible to play this on a single F horn? Thanks, great performance.

  • Thank you so much! I'm working on this and it helps to hear it.
