My parents took me to see "The Exorcist" when I was five years old, so as you can imagine, I have vivid memories of the film. It is still frightening. (I should say despite that lapse I have WONDERFUL parents.) Anyway, this is a fascinating interview. Thanks for posting. It would have been even more interesting if Mercedes McCambridge had agreed to appear. She sounded bitter about the film, but was AMAZING. Thanks again.

@janmuldoon What year did you see it....same as me...either '73 or '74? Was the State theatre an indoor theatre? Was it on the south side of O Street?
Wouldn't that have been wild if we would have been inside that place at the same time?
I don't remember much about Lincoln after that. Actually, my family moved to Arizona in '61, but I went to Doane Coll. my frosh year, then moved back. As a kid in Lincoln, we lived in an area called Eastridge. Great place for a kid!

@WickedTornado I just happened on this site and saw your post. I also attended that movie on a cold winter's night at the State theatre down on O street!!! I recall feeling chilled in more ways than one.....it definitly, for it's time, was the most frightening thing I have ever , or ever will see!!!

@WickedTornado the devil didn't possess the girl, Pazuzu did.

@WickedTornado The answer to that query is simple,
that was some good shit in that bong of yours.

She sounds a bit like Miley Cyrus, doesn't she?

exorcist - 1973, a film classic but one thing i could never understand about the film is when reagans possessed by pazuzu, she has all these injuries, her head spins around on her shoulders , she stabs herself violently in her privates. then when shes cured, all her injuries just magically disappear?
i mean wouldn't she be severely wounded mortally or need a medical emergency right away?
Oh boy, I remember the winter of '73 in Crete, Nebraska. A bunch of my college buds and I drove my 64 Fairlane 2dr. the 40 miles into Lincoln in snowy, drifty weather...smoking the bong the entire way...to go see this movie. Naturally, we just sat in that theatre silently and got our minds blown. There wasn't much talking on the way back, either. I swear to God, that nite back in my ancient old dorm, with my mattress on the floor as my bed, it frickkin' kept vibrating. I'm not joking. It did.
