USA Hockey Standard of Play and Rules Emphasis I

This is the original video released by USA Hockey for the 2006-2007 Playing season. The video is to educate everyone on the new standard of play initiative and rules emphasis.

The point of this initiative was to bring speed and skill back into the game. Prior to the 06-07 season, restraining fouls were not being enforced as outlined in the rules, thus letting cheaters pull ahead of fast skaters, great puckhandlers, and legally physical players.

The restraining fouls had been accepted as "part of the game" by many players, coaches, and fans.

As a referee AND player, I know that it was a VERY hard adjustment, but near the end of what proved to be a long season the standard started to really catch on and become accepted and more understood...but we still have a ways to go.

This was the initial video. USAH introduced a MUCH MUCH more clear video for the 07-08 season that should put the icing on the cake as far as a universal understanding of the new rules emphasis. I have uploaded this as well.

Like I always said: They are not new rules. They have been there all the time. The difference is that now we're calling them.
