Women Are Equal

New York Representative Carolyn Maloney said Monday that she'll reintroduce a constitutional amendment protecting women from discrimination.

Maloney said she plans to make a major push for Congress to pass the Equal Rights Amendment.

She was joined by Congressman Jerrold Nadler and feminist leaders who promise to join the fight to ratify the amendment.

"Throughout the years, law after law, case after case, outrage after outrage, women have had to fight an endless series of isolated battles for the right to be treated equally because women lack the fundamental guarantees of fairness and equality that should be everyone's birthright," said Maloney.

The Equal Rights Amendment would prohibit both the federal government and the states from denying equal rights under the law on account of gender.

Why should someone who tends to take markedly more "sick days" earn the same amount of money? Should I not be able to get a raise because my co-worker works less than I do? Why should someone who tends to have inferior training upon entry earn the same? Why should someone who's a perpetual liability due to potential for pregnancy ever earn exactly the same as someone in the same position, who is not? Do "we" understand business, and the importance of the health of the economy? Appeasement and??
