BUCKEYE, AZ - A long time Valley trucking company is making a huge investment, not just in business but in the environment.

Duncan and Son Lines invested $10 million to upgrade its fleet to become "green."

"It was tough considering we were starting when things were just bottoming out," said Rick Duncan III, the CEO of Duncan, located in Buckeye.

The company has been around since 1967.

Duncan started purchasing 124 new trucks in 2008. Twenty-two were put into service this month.

The trucks all have a diesel particulate filter that captures about 90 percent of the emissions that would normally go into the air.

The company does a lot of business in California. California law requires trucks going in and out of the state to be upgraded to have engines no older than 2007 by 2012.

By making the upgrades to his entire fleet early, Duncan says he was able to get incentives and a competitive edge.

"More and more companies are turning to us because of the technology we've been able to employ," he said.
