homeschooling with high functioning autism

My 6 yr old with aspergers when she was homeschooling. She can read pretty good now. She is a wiz at math and is now above her peers in the same grade, but her thinking is rather odd, and this still is the best representation of a school day with her. We don't always eat ice cream during school, but I was trying to get her to stay still. It was a fruit popsicle. Sorry about the panties showing, she is just a young girl and we are at home, this is how she sits alot, working on correcting it. Please don't leave gross comments about that. Thank you.

UPDATE: Her diagnoses has been changed to high functioning autism. As schoolwork gets harder, she is now having more trouble with it and is behind in some areas. We no longer do school on the floor of our den, but in our school room that we had built. She now has a desk, but is still out of her seat alot.

@lizardbreath1981 so now is that the younger sister is in the asperger condition while the older sis is in the normal autism condition ? They both sister have autism on the same time ? how could this happen ? Can your younger daughter recognize simple word ? why dont you try letting her speak slowly. 1 word at a time.

@xxxAlphaxxx5 The older daughter speeks fine. It is the younger one that talks with a severe speech difficultly. She has real words mixed with babbling or something. It causes alot of frustration for her to try and communicate because people can't understand her.

@xxxAlphaxxx5 My younger daughter has vision problems, yes. It is the younger daughter on the other video that is still in diapers. She was diagnosed with autism at around 2 years old. The older daughter is fine as far as potty trained. Because the older daughter could talk, she wasn't diagnosed till she was 4, because her symptoms were mild. Her diagnoses changed because she is mild and didn't have alot of symptoms when younger, but as she is older, it is more noticeable that she is different.

@lizardbreath1981 Thanks...i really don't know what to say,, Perhaps a thousand thank you. This is a great lesson. So you mean that your elder daughter can't speak well now ? How does your elder daughter become an autism at age 4 ? Is from aspergers to autism a good sign ?Your older daughter can go potty totally by herself rite ? Your younger daughter has autism since birth ? After watching the video of your younger daughter (Maybe , not quite sure weather is that her) has vision problem ?

@xxxAlphaxxx5 But unlike in the store, a child with autism may have been set off because all the people and the sounds and lights may be very overwhealming to them, and they can not take it. So my younger daughter screams, flails, kicks, and hits while in stores. Sometimes, she is okay, but almost everytime, she will not be okay. @xxxAlphaxxx5 You can see in my other video with the younger girl how she talks, but not really. She also has a speech disorder which may have nothing to do with autism. She is unable to express herself, She does not know how old she is or how to answer most questions.A "fit" is screaming and a loss of control that can last from a few minutes to an hour. In public, some would call it a temper tantrum. Like a kid in a store who wants something and is screaming and kicking to get it.

@xxxAlphaxxx5 They are 4 years apart. The older one was not diagnosed until after the younger one was born. Autism and aspergers are very similar, but aspergers children usually do not have a speech delay, so they talk at the normal time as other children, but are "autistic". They are usually diagnosed at a later age because they may seem 'normal', just odd. Children with autism usually do not talk until later if ever. My young daughter did not talk until she was 3. I can barely understand her.

@lizardbreath1981 Thank for your reply. I really appreciate it. I am sorry that both of your beautiful angel has autism . What is the different of autism and aspergers ? What is a meltdown or fit ? and generally your younger daughter is worst as then her sister rite . Are they twins or ....?

@xxxAlphaxxx5 My younger daughter would be classified as having "low functioning autism", or somewhere in the moderate range.

I have seen kids who seem pretty normal with a diagnoses, and I have seen kids who are severly handicapped with the same diagnoses.It is weird. My older daughter functions pretty well, and rarely ever has meltdowns or fits, where as my younger duaghter has a serious struggle every day with anything, and most of the time the younger daughter has severe meltdowns and fits.

@xxxAlphaxxx5 Hi. Thank you for your question. To say that someone has "high funcioning autism" from my understanding just means to show a level of severity. Her diagnoses used to be aspergers, but now it is autism. Her IQ is actually lower than normal children, and all kids with autism have varying IQ.

I have a younger daughter who is more severely affected with autism and also has other disabilities, who is still in diapers, may never potty train, and is probably mentally handicapped.
