Ilya Kovalchuk passes too far from his defense-man into his own empty net against the Carolina Hurricanes, 12/26/2011. Cam Ward,the Hurricanes' Goaltender, was credited with the goal. It is Cam Ward's 1st NHL goal.
Cam Ward also made history as the first Goaltender in Hurricanes' franchise to ever score a goal, and he is also the 10th Goaltender in NHL History to ever score a goal.

#16 should have been credited with the goal, it definitely touched his stick, you can tell from the replays, but you can watch other videos where the audio is better and you can hear the puck deflecting off of his stick

@Mig29tvc yeah... but in my eyes he isn't much of a team player... he has the potential to be the best in the nhl though

Ironically it was the New Jersey Devils (then known as the Colorado Rockies) who were the victims of a similar play when Billy Smith of the NY Islanders was credited as the first NHL Goalie to score a goal.[ On November 28, 1979, in a game between the Islanders and the Colorado Rockies, the Rockies' goaltender left the ice for an extra attacker after a delayed penalty call was called on the Islanders] Never liked this Smith guy he never shook hands in the line up after winning just skated off.
