Yet he felt he couldn't excuse himself and visit the toilet. It has been some time since I read about Tycho, but if my memory serves me right he felt something burst inside whilst eating the fatal dinner. After the meal he was taken home where he lingered, clinging to life by his finger-tips, in agony for a week or so before he expired.

And exploding bladders are an interesting study. as I recall Tycho Brae (who was an amazing scientist and astronomer) died because he refused to go to the toilet!
He lived in an age in which going to the lavatory was impolite, so he didn't go during a banquet. During the meal he ate and, more importantly, drank a great deal.
