An instructional video on how to play this hit song as demonstrated by Dr Joseph Baldassarre. Video taped at my own studio and uploaded with permission from the client.

  • I hate to tell you dr. did not play on Time wont let me, nor did he do the solo, the guys name was al austin, and he passed away in the late 60's

  • @Becomeyourbestself

It was extremely common for even established bands to use studio musicians to record for them. The bands were often present for guidance and I believe that was the case here. The Dr. here was a studio musician in Cleveland and recorded at least a demo of this song. It might have been rerecorded later, but it certainly sounds like him & his Guild.

  • LOL! I am sure this gentleman is a very good guitar player, but...have played in bands forever--learned this one when it was new. Its not even a challenge! Again no disrespect: this is just pablum Sixties guitar--probably done with those in mind not familiar with the genre. Check out some old Lonnie Mack or Ike Turner! LOL

BTW, the singer in the Outsiders, Sonny Gervase (SP?) also sang "Precious & Few" w/ Climax.

I appreciate your input in that this is not a particularly difficult song to play. This was a paid production done for a specific project. It was posted to You Tube by request. How can I say no to that?

  • @wado1942 I understand completely. I wouldn't have said no either! LOL Further down, you talk about using a Vox AC15. Sweet amp. Have you ever played through a Fender Blues Deluxe?

Rock guitar has developed considerably over the last forty years, and in the Sixties, I played leads very similar to this. Most seems based on Chuck Berry leads .Just pretty simple to play--especially compared to, say, Steve Vai's stuff...

  • @pepperdineu1

I'm rather fond of my Vox. I haven't played a Blues Deluxe, I'm not a guitar player. A friend of mine had one at one time though. Got pretty good sound out of it too. But yeah, guitar has changed quite a bit over the years. I think it's regressed recently, though there's certainly exceptions!

  • @Becomeyourbestself It says "As Demonstrated". It does not say that this man played on the original recording. It is well known that Al Austin did the fabulous guitar work on this classic.

  • @garystrat ......... Where do you get your information from? Really cuz I would love to know. The guitar player on the record was named Al Austin and he committed suicide because right after the song was recorded and signed by Capitol records, Mr. Austin's father forbid him to tour with the band. So he ran his car into a train. Next time get your fact's straight

  • Thought is was great - !

  • You guys and your comments crack me up - don't you realize that Dr. Joe is the one who actually played the solo on Time Won't Let Me as a studio musician early in his career ? Yes , it's true .
