Brahms: Die Mainacht (The Hastings College Choir)

The Hastings College Choir performs our four-part arrangement of a Brahms solo song from his opus 43. Dr. Fritz Mountford, conductor; Prof. Ruth Moore, piano.

Brahms has set three verses of an introspective German poem by Ludwig H.C. Holty: 1) "When the silvery moon beams through the undergrowth, And its slumbering light scatters over the lawn, And the nightingale warbles, I walk sadly through the wood." 2) "Shrouded by foliage, a pair of turtledoves coo their delight to me, but I turn away, seeking darker shadows, And a lonely tear falls." 3) "When, O smiling image which, like the dawn, shines through my soul, shall I find you on earth? And the lonely tear flows burning down my cheek."

Hastings College, founded in 1882, is a private, four-year liberal arts institution affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA). The college is located in Hastings, Nebraska.

wow this is beautiful. I sang a TTBB version arranged by Stroope my freshman year & I thought that was amazing, but I think this arrangement takes the cake. Outstanding rendition
