So this is part of a series of animations I made back in high school that won the state-wide animation competition in Spring 2006 (each of which had to fall under certain limits, explained below). The quality isn't professional. After all, it was completely done by me in a short time span in high school, so I think it's pretty good all things considered. I'm currently in college working on a degree in 3D art and technology.

So the limit for this project was it had to be something sci-fictional. So I got to work creating some guy in a futuristic space suit, wondering what the heck to do with him. I tried several ideas, but I eventually settled on this. The running animation is stiff, but that's because motion capture was not an option and I was new to animating human movement, and unfamiliar with how to work the joints. The music is so overused in a LOT of things, but it just fits, and I like it, so there.

  • not bad, I wish you'd do something much longer. like four mintues or so.

  • Sure, thing is, if you read the description, I had to keep this at 30 seconds, which makes it feel really rushed. Just a competition limitation.

  • Wow, really nice!!! But I don't know if I would consider that 'amateur'...

  • Ha, thanks! It was one of the first 3D things I've ever done, and I'm certainly no expert.

  • Very nice, did you model and animate all of this? if so what program or programs did you use. Keep it up!

  • mmm I re-read the description and couldn't find it indicated that you had to keep it to 30 seconds, this must be one of the limitations you refered to. Amazing for highschool work. Although a programmer myself, I often wish I had more artistic skill.

  • cool.
