the middle part of this bukai is good, the entrance isnt sufficient though- why would i use a gedan barai for something like that, also punching the throat makes no sense when the chin is right next to it in clear way. the ending as said in previous comments would have made a better throw- hitting the groin makes no sense once again wespecially when the previous attack way a punch to the face, whats wrong with just hitting the face again, and again, and again. nothing.

Love majority of the bunkai and agree that after the groin strike a throw is the next stage. While I don't like being negative, the initial 'block' wouldn't be effective against a real life attack, which would more than likely include head punches. Nice video though with some strong karate on show.

unlimited interpretations of a kata.... none are wrong.... maybe some might be less practical than others but katas apps are endless.. nice vid

The punch to the throat would probably kill them. The attacks after the punch to the throat would be like hitting a punch bag. I like this bunkai.

very nice, thanks you !!!

Not the part of the Kata that needs translation. This is atleast similar to what 90% of shotokan people teach for ths set of moves. It's pretty straight forward.

this is totally un realistic... you need to learn the true reasons of bunkai and life protection not this dojo play

Good ideas, but not all would work. First and above all, the attacker must attack seriously. Only handgrip on the wrist without any further threat is not realistic at all. Why assail someone with strikes to the larynx when there is no further serious threat?
Second, the hiza-geri. There is a high probability that such a high knee strike won't be effective. It's used here from a middle-range, it's too far away. Better use a very short strike straight up to the testicles in a very close distance
Functionality should determine form. The techniques actually had a function b/4 they codified into forms. The purpose of the forms were to develop muscle memory along with balance, speed and power thru solo practice. This was never meant yo be the end, but the beginning. Practicing the application is alway easier, if you've already familiar with the movement. This is done in all sports. The is forms became spiritualized to be the endgame rather a vehicle towards practical skills.

I would agree with you, in a way. In fact, I think that's what the creators of kata did - in a world in which there was a very limited access to knowledge, they organized their precious self-defence techniques into a sequence. But today, when just on the youtube you can find miriads of SD techniques, not speaking of thousands of quality teachers accessible to everybody, it doesn't make sense anymore.
