This is for educational purposes ONLY! I do not suggest anyone try this at home! (well kinda) lol

1. Swap cases with new console to replace serial sticker on rear of console.
2. Swap thin strip serial sticker on the front of the console under the faceplate next to the two USB ports with new console.
3. Kill the console by contacting the two specified points on the inside of the old console to avoid employees of the victim store (lol) checking the dashboard of the console for matching serials... its a great way to say that your console was defective at purchase or something lol
4. The console bought must physically match the old one your swapping with. (i.e. hdmi, etc...)

  • You know, the broken guts you're returning are REGISTERED to you if you've ever gone on Live. So, you know, pretty easy for MS to find out who's gutswapping.

  • @Cinemastique By killing the console, and swapping the exterior case. There is no "paper trail" indicating the previous owner of the parts of the gutswapped console.

There has yet to be a case where M$ has gone after someone via that method, your comment is based purely on speculation. Plus, there can be more than one owner, they can't ever pin-point the action of a gutswap on a single person unless the retailer catches you in the act at the time of doing so.

  • i was just wondering would they bother checking it if you re tape the box so it looks like it was never even opened? i wouldnt think so but ya never know. any comments?

  • @ryanvertz20 replacing stickers is more obvious cause they never look the same when reapplying them... they are either crooked or worn around the edges... case swaps are much safer and more reliable.

  • I've done the swap with a non-hdmi unit for a newer hdmi unit, and they didn't notice. I've also swapped out a Pro (silver) drive when the unit I was returning was supposed to be an Arcade.

Gotta remember, this is Wal-Mart. The worse they can do anyways is just tell you to go away and hand back your console. Then you go to the next closest Wal-Mart. Just always pay in cash and you are set.

Oh, also I have never seen them hook the xbox up to a TV. They just check S/Ns and send it on its way.

  • @lindigj your right, it all depends on the person checking it, but i do know that 50% of the time, bestbuy and geeksquad will sometimes check to turn it on while you are there... they catch you, they WILL prosecute, this is retail theft.. and $200 isnt verry little either... not trying to scare anyone, just know what your getting into when you do this, theres always a risk.. you just want to minimize it as much as possible.

  • when you go back to the walmart and return it do u just say its broken and wont turn on and ask for a return?

  • @feralapache37 nooo. im talking about taping up the actual box after u swap cases so it looks like you never even opened the box. im pretty sure most places dont even check something that looks like it was never opened.

  • @frunkiss thats like severely obvious tho...you can always buy a used console from a store that sells non hdmi consoles to gutswap with... just make sure the one you buy is working and comes with some warranty...

  • Right, well as long as the shell physically fits i'll take the chance that they won't notice. i guess i have no choice since non-hdmi consoles are impossible to find anymore, right?
