  • how can i find one of these

  • @RachetnClank25

If you do a Google search for "Maltron Keyboard" and visit their web shop, you should find what you're after.

  • @RachetnClank25

Firstly the high quality. I'm still using my original 1986 board, completely problem free. Secondly, Maltron is creating assistance for people with disabilities, not the general computer market. (Doesn't mean we can't take advantage of it though ;-) )

Thirdly each keyboard is hand made and even signed by the creator. Having done that work myself (converting a Maltron) it's VERY time consuming.

If you buy a keyboard for $800 and it lasts 20 years - $40/year

  • so while there's a big "up-front" cost, when amortised over time, they're very inexpensive. What sort of keyboard could you buy for $40 - and how long would it last? :-D

  • Is this just like a steno machine??

  • @mellymell0810

No, a stenotype is different. It only has 22 keys, and the keys are pressed simultaneously, or chorded, whereas this keyboard the keys are struck sequentially. But it achieves a similar result - transcription at the speed of speech.

  • why do they cost like 800 dollars?

  • SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!!!

  • @CorporateEvolution

Much faster, taken in conjunction with the shorthand it can be done at the speed of speech (150-200 wpm) without much danger of cramping up or getting RSI.

  • How much faster is it for transcription than a regular keyboard?
