This is my first video of several hiphop beats I'll be covering in the near future: The 'Impeach The President' drum loop - originally from The Honey Drippers record but it has been used on a huge number of hiphop records and other genres too - either in its original form or processed and combined with other sounds...
In this video I play a few variations of the Impeach break while playing along to an instrumental loop of the De La Soul track 'Ring Ring Ring' (You know the one that goes "Hey... how ya doin... sorry u can't get thru...").
I then quickly explain some of the features of this approach, and how it can be used, namely-
1- A drummer playing recoginsed classic beats - indeed any beat that has been prepared to sound a particular way in the studio that would not necessarily be possible with an acoustic kit (even though the Impeach beat - in this example - was originally an acoustic kit)
2 - Much more flexibility due to having each segment chopped separately. This means you can play it live as a drummer, at any tempo and come up with variations & fills...
3 - Emulating the way samplers retrigger segments of a loop - again, live.
pretty dope
