What a perfect start to the 1960's? I remember listening to this over and over as an 8y/o on my big sisters borrowed Dansette in 1960, a kinda melancholy memory now...

On this date in 1961 {Jan. 23rd} 'Apache' by Jorgen Ingmann entered the U.S.A. Billboard's Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at No. 2 {for 2 weeks} and spent 17 total weeks in the Top 100. The Shadows version never charted in the U.S.A.; for me it's a toss up; both version are excellent!!!

@Faustcab They used a lot of spring reverb plus the whammy bar on the guitar. The Ventures used reverb with some tape echo also.
