Wikipedia: The second column of Russian cavalry was then smashed by the British Heavy Brigade, in an illogical uphill charge that greatly enhanced the image and prestige of the British cavalry, forcing the Russians to retreat to their artillery, which was strategically positioned along the ridges above the valley. Raglan ordered the Light Brigade to "prevent the enemy carrying away the guns", a notably badly-worded instruction that prompted the infamous Charge of the Light Brigade. The Light Brigade was saved from total destruction by an intervention from the French 4th Chasseurs d'Afrique.
The Charge of the Light Brigade Alfred, Lord Tennyson
1. Half a league, half a league, Half a league onward, All in the valley of Death Rode the six hundred. "Forward, the Light Brigade! "Charge for the guns!" he said: Into the valley of Death Rode the six hundred.
2. "Forward, the Light Brigade!" Was there a man dismay'd? Not tho' the soldier knew Someone had blunder'd: Their's not to make reply, Their's not to reason why, Their's but to do and die: Into the valley of Death Rode the six hundred.
3. Cannon to right of them, Cannon to left of them, Cannon in front of them Volley'd and thunder'd; Storm'd at with shot and shell, Boldly they rode and well, Into the jaws of Death, Into the mouth of Hell Rode the six hundred.
4. Flash'd all their sabres bare, Flash'd as they turn'd in air, Sabring the gunners there, Charging an army, while All the world wonder'd: Plunged in the battery-smoke Right thro' the line they broke; Cossack and Russian Reel'd from the sabre stroke Shatter'd and sunder'd. Then they rode back, but not Not the six hundred.
5. Cannon to right of them, Cannon to left of them, Cannon behind them Volley'd and thunder'd; Storm'd at with shot and shell, While horse and hero fell, They that had fought so well Came thro' the jaws of Death Back from the mouth of Hell, All that was left of them, Left of six hundred.
6. When can their glory fade? O the wild charge they made! All the world wondered. Honor the charge they made, Honor the Light Brigade, Noble six hundred.

Surat Khan was not Turk, but Hindu. He was a friend to Vickers before, but had ordered the massacre of the people in a British camp in Chukote, India; knowing the major would seek him for revenge, he got to escape and joined the Russians.
Do a little homework, will you? Yes, there were horses killed. But nowhere near 200.And laws were passed (after the fact) to protect them. By the way, there was 1 rider killed when he fell on his sword.
apparently over 200 horses were killed in the making of this. as its an american product obviously nobody was ever found guilty. some things never change
What exactly is racist about this? It is based on a real battle, British against the Russians, in which 600 British cavalry charged at Russian artillery. Many of the British soldiers died as a result.
It's a racist movie celoebrating the Empire, imperialism, illegal wars and one of the most stupid events in history (the charge). The Indians are the villains, most of them played by white actors in blackface.
