I don't know who wrote this song or even who sang it. I heard Bill Emerson (Group Therapy String Band) do it and it has become my favourite song.

  • Bat McGrath - Live from the Blue Eagle Restaurant & Bar located between Penn Yan and Naples in the beautiful Finger Lakes Region of Upstate New York. He did a bunch of stuff with Don Potter back in the day. I've been searching Youtube for the original version for a few years now and finally came across this one. This is the first I remember ever hearing the song but I've heard about it since I was a kid! The Blue Eagle has a bunch of local history and I believe it's still in operation today.

  • @Manvillebrady Thanks for listening and taking the time to comment. I still haven't heard what's become of Eddie Shank.

  • Very cool.

Don't listen to Outlawracer. Just consider the source . You're not Bat MacGrtah, but I'm not John Denver either.

We have our styles and the people who don't like them..well thats their problem.

  • Thanks for listening. I welcome all comments--even the negative. It means folks are listening. I have exchanged e-mails with Bat McGrath and he told me about Eddie Shank. Anybody have any Eddie Shank stories?

  • Enjoyed the song..... was at the Blue Eagle years ago.... know exactly where it is. There was a for sale sign on it this past summer. I was hoping to sit and have a beer.... but got on the bikes and found another place to stop.

I want to learn the song myself....

  • @foxmay3762 Some of the people that played there back in the day were: Ray Rosell (my dad), The Mississippi Gamblers (my uncle and cousins) Ron Saxton, The Lewis' (a family), Bob Mesler (another uncle), Stan & Lucy Price. My mom has pictures dating back to the first owners and the jamborees they put on.

  • some more history...Bat wrote the song because he lived just a mile or so away from the bar and when the 3rd owner (Paul Cayward) had the bar he had outside parties with diffrent people from the area come and sing country and western music, Bat would come and sing. When he was singing he had the cars lined up on both sides of the road all the way to Brown's Store.

  • Some history on The Blue Eagle-I met my husband at this bar, when his cousin Jim Burke owned and ran the bar. Jimmy and Brenda made this bar what is was. It was a terrible thing when Jimmy was killed. The bar has had its ups and downs, but it will never be as good as when Jim and Brenda ran it. This bar never had a dirt floor-they just never cleaned it-my husbands father pour the concret for the floor inin the 50's when Mack Doughtery (the first owner) had the bar. see my next comment

  • Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but if you're gonna rip off Bat McGrath's music, you could at least get the lyrics right

  • Hey yall Dave Earley Here!If ya like ta know about Bat ,Well lets just say we were good friends and hes a hell guy....We all miss him out here on the Bluff!
