Rwanda is the only country in the world with a female majority in parliament, as women hold 56 percent of parliamentary seats (45 out of 80).

The rise of women in power is in part due to the countrys electoral quota (30 percent female), and partly a consequence of male deaths during the countrys 1994 genocide. Women comprise 55 percent of the Rwandan population as a whole.

Worldfocus special correspondent Martin Seemungal travels to Rwanda, a country recovering from its terrible genocide with the help of some very powerful women.

  • No wonder that country is still backward

  • @adz09ish says "Rwandan men have no fucking balls.what kind of pussy men live in that country."

    Peace,

I wouldn't call Rwandan men pussies... Far from it... They are comfortable in their manhood. So comfortable, that is, that they are willing to give women a chance at the helm for a change... Those of them that resort to domestic violence are the pussies IMHO.

Btw/ I'm not Rwandan.. But I love them and wish them well... Whether they be BaHutu, BaTutsi or BaTwa! God bless them!

  • @adz09ish ignorance is bad!

  • Rwandan men have no fucking balls.what kind of pussy men live in that country.

  • @kirundo1

"be smart, be smart..." dude, you obviously think you're the smartest person on the planet. Keep feeling that way. Whatever can help you deal with the guilt of supporting Kagame's genocidal regime.

  • Apart from old faded glory, Women of Rwanda according to our tradition, whenever they (women) succeed financialy, their families would be the first to enjoy that prosperity, in contrast, Rwandan men would seek a second wife, join clubs and bars. You can see a huge difference between Rwandan prosperous women and men. Just be smart more than you and your people sound, it will benefit you in the future

  • Throught the Rwandan history, women are always the symbol of prosperity for Rwanda in Rwanda. They have proven to be the best strategist ever more than Rwandan men. If you don't know your history, ask our senior citizens, they will remind you of the Queen " Bwiza bwa Mashyira budashyira irora n'irongora" She unified what is today Rwanda and Burundi, when the King of Burundi then was threatening to conquor entire Rwanda, She croosed over to Burundi, married the guy, then took over Burundi

  • Yego2 is as ignorant as his/her comment shows. Empowering women and other positive changes has nothing to do with pleasing the West. You guys need to rise to the occation and be smarter than your usual habit. Be smart enough to see the right and follow it; be smart more than usual to see the wrong and deny it. Just be smart, please. Be smart in the name of every thing, be smart like others, be smart, be smart, be smart now and ever.

  • at 3:40, women have to do all the work in rural areas because the gacaca reconciliation courts have sent most of the men to jail or condemned them to work for Tutsis without pay. Or they've been forcibly recruited in the army and sent to be cannon fodder in the Congo.

Kagame's regime is just making the cosmetic changes that they know please the West: more women in power, environment-friendly policies...while they quietly and methodically conduct genocide against the Hutu.

  • I am so proud of what Kagame has achieved even though the west try to paint him with stupid allegations but then of course any leader succeeding in Africa is a bad guy.
