The Type XX1 is truly one of the great submarine designs. If it had come fully into service, it would have posed almost insuperable problems for the Allies. Even though it never became fully operational, it became the prototype for all future conventional submarines, and even influenced the design of the first nuclear submarines.

  • lt's nice to know that someone had the foresight to preserve this beautiful old boat for future generations to wonder at. When it comes to preservation it doesn't really matter whose side they fought for, they are an important part of our history.

  • I´ve visited the U-boat some time ago in Bremerhaven. The weirdest thing about it is the fact it laid sunk in salty water for 12 years before it was reactivated and served for another twenty years again.

  • Germans are such bitches always blaming Hitler for losing the war.

  • @blumenstejn The ocean's depths can be astoundingly preservative in some cases...I worked a number of years in marine salvage and so know whereof i speak. The important thing is to IMMEDIATELY clean a raised vessel thoroughly before the air gets to it....it is a battle against time....flush all the piping and tubing...fuel tanks, engine sumps, etc. like RIGHT NOW.

  • @nethead4223 Mixed views of your comment. First, there was nothing comparable to the Manhattan Project regarding the so-called race for the A-bomb.

Also keep in mind the Me-262 FLEW solely on jet power just 8 months after Pearl Harbor and the Sturmgewehr automatic assault weapon was deployed without the Fuhrer's knowledge in 1943.

Btw, just in the last year (!) the American Army disposed of nerve gas developed but never used by the Germans which was captued after VE day.

  • @norton996 Type 21 never went into service and every U say is a lie + unproven. Gato Class Submarines sunk 8 aircraft carriers, 1 battleship and 11 cruisers. Its a know fact German Uboats were affraid to attack Capital War Ships while it was common for a Gato Class submarines to attack Jap heavy crusiers and battle shipts. Type 21 loses + is a failure let alone US Navy intelligence knew your every move + Uboat tactics. US Subs were the only submarines with MARK IV TDCTactical Data Computers..

  • @norton996 Germany lost The Battle of Atlantic + WW2. Gato Class Submarine was airconditioned, had the MARK IV TDC-Tactic Data Computer. It had longer range, radar + could dive deeper. It had teletype communications with instant decoding. Uboats were total failures with 734 sunk + 30,000 dead from a total of 40,000 + failed to stop Allied shipping. US Submarines choked Japan to death, destroyed 90% of Merchant Fleet and sunk 8 aircraft carriers, 1 battleship and 11 cruisers. U krauts lose WW2.

  • @LottoWinner999 Considering that a type 21 could dive to 660 feet compared to the 300 feet design depth of a Gato class submarine and the fact that when using an accoustic torpedo a type 21 could launch an attack from 160 feet deapth without even using the periscope is not within the abilities of a Gato class submarine. I would say the type 21 wins.

  • @rampking1

Probably because he knew that the war would had been over when the weapons would be ready. He should had invested everything possible into the a-bomb in addition to the V2 and maybe the horten HO 229, With this 2 carrier systems and an A-Bomb war would had been over for the slaves of high finance.

  • Impressive, still modern looking shape.

  • @ehrediewahrheit The USA Gato Class Submarine with the MARK IV Tactical Data Computer was 20 years ahead of the German U Boats.Gato Class submarines were faster air conditioned, could travel longer distance, had radar + advanced sonar and communication with coded Teletype that deciphered codes in minutes versus hours. In addition they could stay submerged longer without a snorkel. The German U-boats could not compare to US Subs attacked and sunk destroyers, heavy-cruiser and aircraft carriers.

  • @blumenstejn German quality :-)
