Excerpts from a selection of pieces - NDAA, MOTSWA - HOLE and BUPIRO - MIKITI. Book tickets for EBHOFOLO at www.danceumbrella.co.uk/festival.html

Returning to Dance Umbrella in 2009, Vincent Mantose, a dancer of riveting physicality and writhing intensity (NY Times), is performing a new solo, EBHOFOLO. He fuses ritual dance with classical physical vocabularies to create a complex political aesthetic. With EBHOFOLO ('this madness'), he takes inspiration from the four spaces of the traditional African homestead to reflect on multiple characters journeys through contemporary life. Working with dance historian Karen Vedel and using the music of Persian composer Kayhan Kalhor, EBHOFOLO reflects Mantsoes commitment to cultural preservation while also negotiating the tensions between tradition and modernity.
