We picked the right day to go to Rochelle as there was one rare unit after the other. We saw one of the remaining Chicago Northwestern (CNW) GEs, a couple Union Pacific (UP) switchers, an ex Southern Pacific (SP) SD45, and the UP United Way Engine.

  • Actually for me this sight is not rare. I live next to an old UP branch in the SF Bay Area in CA and they use a lot of odd but cool power including GP38-2, GP40-2, SD40-2, SW1500, MP15 (AC&DC), GP15, GP35s the ocassional ES44DC all mostly in leasing or patched MP, SP or DRGW schemes.

  • Wow alot of rare engines!!

  • gotta love the nathan p3's though

  • What kind of editing software do YOU use? No way you saw ALL of those engines in one day! jk. Sweet videos. Sweet luck

  • Neat video, That United Way unit is really neat looking

  • @otef434 You just don't see them every day, some of these engines have been re-painted or taken off the UP system from the looks of it.

  • @railrdr523 They are not rare. The SP is a junker. The switchers are shuttled from Council Bluffs or Des Moines to the shop in Proviso and back. The CNW GE was on the circuit between Itasca and Proviso, Council Bluffs and Proviso, and Des Moines Proviso for quite some time. Same goes with the United Way unit, miserable thing that it is.

Lastly, grow up kid. I did nothing to deserve the kind of language you directed towards me.

  • Rare? How was that rare?

  • UP 3356 went through Rochelle on June 20,2006 as the 3rd locomotive on a freight train behind UP 3071 and 3072.

  • HOLLY CRAP! that was an SD40-2 long nose on the first consist! dont see that verry often.
