The D Jetronic in good condition is not so poor under 5000rpm, but the standard ignition is a unefficient and unreliable system...
I think with a good injection+ignition management, the gain is specialy a better torque curve and fuel economy, more power only over 5000rpm...

You do not mention what horsepower and torque you have achieved.
