Hovie Lister was the coolest man alive!
Notice at the end of the song he would say, "how bout it statesmen!" He WAS the statesmen!

Doug Young was the last bass singer of the Statesmen .

How wonderful to see footage of the original group singing this song. It was very moving to see Hovie Lister and Jake Hess together again with the Gaither Homecoming group. Bill Gaither gave those old Gospel groups like the Statesmen, Happy Goodmans, LaFevres. Speers a chance to do what they love best again. What joy that must have brought those groups near the end of their lives to be singing for the Lord again!! You just can't beat Gospel music!!!

I know you are the pro but looking at the old picture on Happy Rhythm, Jack is first, then Jake Hess, then Doy Ott, then Big Chief. The original is the third from the left and it is Doy Ott.
