Taken on the windy evening of 6 December 2007 (apologies for the poor sound quality - this was Cumberland ringing after all though). The ringing is the last lead and a bit of a touch of three leads of Orion Surprise Maximus. I was standing by the door to let in any latecomers. The begging guy is not believed to have been Ian Fielding.

As regards the new 12 here, as soon as I heard the trebles here when they first pulled off, i was put in mind of their 1920s stuff... spine melting quality. Not quite the standard of their finest work back in the day, but damnit, so very very close. Glorious bells.

  • @KDowner94, no Kieran, they're not! The old 12 were dreadful crap.I know, i've rung a peal on them. Amongst the local ringers are some whose opinions and experience have been honed over may decades. Their knowlege was perhaps a major factor in choosing to have a new ring. Some may say that the new 12 here aren't the epitome of perfection. Some say, probably because they've heard someone else say it, that the trebles squeal. Bullshit. The new bells are superb, and the old ones were shite!

  • very nice indeed! despite the sound quality

  • The old bells swayed the tower big time, I remember when I used to stand on the top while sitting out having a smoke and I really felt it. I gave up smoking now so I dont do that anymore

  • i don't think those bells are there anymore as they are replacing them with lighter bells because the tower swayed so much

  • I have rang here many years ago, I think I was 15 at that time I am now 28. I do agree with Whittingtons. I used to love exploring different places. Couple of Churches away from this church is the St Edwards which has 6 but a strange sounding 4th. Sounds like double strikes. The church next to this is nice sounding 6. Other end nr to train station has a catholic church with a heavy sounding 8.

  • Retune some of those bells please!

  • lol i think you should make a video of some ASCY ringing to show everyone how it should be done.

  • woooo go Cumberlands! lol
