Tornadoes are not rated by size.

  • this isn't a F5 tornado. much too small

  • @angel5469ca

I agree with you. The Edmonton tornado was worse than the Elie tornado by far even though it had a lower rating. This is a clear case of how intensity is not the only factor in how bad a tornado is. And thank you for the correction on my word choice

  • @dragonridley OMG you dont get it...the Edmonton tornado is the second worst tornado that hit Canada. If you really read the damage survey the tornado that hit Edmonton killed 27 and injured over 300. The only reason why yours seems to be worse is because it hit the Trans Canada Highway. Houses only get swept away by floods sorry to say. Tornados blow houses away.

  • @angel5469ca

In this case the house tossed was built out of brick and had steel bolts connecting it to its foundation. I read the damage survey myself.

  • @angel5469ca

Again, it's the severity of the damage that determines the rating, not the quantity. An F4 rating means well-built houses were leveled. An F5 rating means well built houses were swept away.

  • Edmonton Tornado, July 31. Strong F4, possibly F5, along with a few other weaker tornadoes. Edmonton, Alberta and surrounding areas. 27 dead, 253 injured. See article for in-depth information. One of Canada's strongest tornadoes, and the second deadliest tornado (after the 1912 Regina Cyclone).

  • @dragonridley O yea not to mention man holes covers forcefully ejected off the street infront of cars and buses. One of those buses held my sister-in-law while she was trying to get back home from the mall. O yes and the trailer park that was wiped out. The Edmonton tornado KILLED and destroyed more stuff than a puny little house..Edmonton has NEVER been the same since. Everytime there is a thunder storm now everyone runs for cover!

  • @dragonridley One of the oil containers that was extreamly well built was tossed around like a toy. A house is built out of wood NOT bolted to the ground where as a oil contier IS made out of steel and bolted to the ground. Not to mention all the conecting pipes which could've potentionaly posed some more danger than what was already there with high winds hail etc.

  • @angel5469ca

The Edmonton tornado was officially a high-end F4, though it possibly did hit F5 intensity at least briefly.

One thing is it's not so much the amount of damage but the intensity of it, even if it's just to one structure. In this case an extremely well built house was completely torn from its foundation and thrown.
