"Tomoko Miyata (aka Sauvage improvises on waterbowls, a self-invented percussion instrument made of Chinese porcelain bowls filled with water, inspired by an instrument of carnatic music (south india), Jalatarangam."-salon bruit. Born in Japan, Tomoko Sauvage studied classical and jazz piano in Japan and NYC prior Tokyo as a jazz pianist and electro-acoustic musician and now lives in Paris.

  • It is an ancient musical instrument from India known as the "Jalatarangam" or in the Northern parts as Jalatarang. "Jal" is the root word for water because of the fact that water is used to fine tune the various porcelain bowls used to produce different pitches.
