Some of my thoughts on the Vienna Game 1.e4 e5 2.Nc3 Nf6 3.f4 d5. My quest is to play in the style of kingscrusher without allowing the defense used in Hellers-Karpov Hastings 1990 (..Be7 & ..Ng5)

  • actually at 2:30 Black can attack as following : Bh4+ (if Knight capture then Qe4+ with white response g3 then finally black capture g3 with his knight .. ) or g3 then the Bishop captures . .

  • @mazinm2006 6...Bh4+ 7.Nxh4 Qxh4+ 8.g3 Nxg3 9.Qf2 (a typical counterpin) Nf5 (9...d4!?) 10.Qxh4 Nxh4 11.Nxd5 ought to be better for white.

  • I played this game today [Event "Evanston Chess vs. TMCC"] [Date "2010.04.18"] [White "Pullin, Matt"] [Black "Markovic, Arandel"] [Result "1-0"] [ECO "C29"] [WhiteElo "2045"] [BlackElo "2000"] [PlyCount "47"] 1. e4 e5 2. Nc3 Nf6 3. f4 d5 4. fxe5 Nxe4 5. Nf3 Be7 6. Qe2 Nxc3 7. dxc3 b6?! 8. Bf4 a5 9. O-O-O c6 10. Qf2 Nd7? 11. Qg3 g6 12. e6! fxe6 13. Bc7 Bh4 14. Nxh4 Qf6 15. Bd3 g5 16. Nf3 Rg8 17. Rhf1 Qh6 18. Ne5 Nxe5 19. Qxe5 b5 20. Rf6 Qg7 21. Rdf1 Ra7 22. Rxe6+ Bxe6 23. Qxe6+ Qe7 24. Qc8+ 1-0
  • Matt I really like the relaxing grey rocks as a background. Also, your "dual commentary game" with the Australian kid was excellent. I got a prescription to his channel also.

    Best regards,

    Jess

  • @jessicafischerqueen The rocks are a default background in ChessBase9. Your comment made me wonder if I am allowed to use my own image... :-}

  • At 6:38, why doesn't white just Qf5+. It would be a good move, I think. White is still defending the pawn on c2. A move for black would be Pc5 to defend his knight, but... idk. I'm no chess player.

    :3

  • I'm just starting to look at openings and the sheer number of possibilities in each game has me so hooked. Thanks for the great video!

  • @neoconretard Not sure, I've been playing a bunch of them. I think the Keres is all right.

  • At 7:37 if white nabs the b-pawn even better would be Na6 winning the queen, a common trap.

    Nice video, found it instructive.

  • as always well done matt great vid thumbs up!
