I was living in Daytona at the time and was home from college. The whole city went crazy this day!

Dale Inman wasn't Richard's crew chief that day. Richard was driving for Mike Curb motorsports and Buddy Parrott was crew chief and Todd Parrott was tire specialist. Dale inman left the Petty team after the 1981 Daytona 500 win, in 1984 he led Terry Labonte and the Billy Hagan #44 Piedmont Airlines team to the Winston Cup title.

@bigdsweet No one shoved dale into the wall. I was there that day. He clipped the inside of the apron that sent him back across in front of the field and then he got hit in the RR. The hit into the wall is what caused his death, not the hit in the RR. If he had done what the official told him to do and move the seat belt he would not have died in the first place.

im so glad to see the greatest nascar driver ever be among the first to be inducted into the NASCAR hall of fame. noone will ever come close to challenging him for the title of greatest ever.

Richard Petty...what more can you say..the best damn driver of all time..long live the king..hell yeah.
-
@bigdsweet no doubt the 48 cheats. but everyone used to cheat, they just never got caught lol
-
Dale sr would have been close to his wins or even got more champianships then Richard but someone had to shove his nose into the damn wall. Richard is king forever because none of the pussy drivers now could never have the balls to win that many. Jimmy Johnson cheats.
Miss the 'ol days..... long live the king!
