Puccini described Madama Butterfly as his most "deeply felt and imaginative opera." This heart-breaking drama of Puccini's most tragic heroine is illuminated in new ways in this elegant minimalist production by Robert Wilson. 2008/09 Season staging.

  • Das ES in alto wurde am Ende der Auftrittsarie der Butterfly leider ausgelassen!!!!!!

  • Madame Butterfly... IN SPACE!!!

That's what this looks like. The costumes are so ugly, like they tried to make the traditional Japanese clothes Star Wars-y. Yuck.

  • I'm going to see this in March in Dublin. It's my first Opera! So I hope it's good...

  • The video and performances shown here do no justice to the three performances I saw at LA Opera over several years. Patricia Raclette was fantastic and Robert Wilson's staging was extraordinary.

  • Tacky, tacky, tacky

  • The stylistic staging is a lot more kitsch than the music is kitsch. It's a kitsch-over- kitsch pop-entertainment walking like a cool pseudo-minimalism high taste.

  • What's with the costumes?

  • est-ce cette cantatrice que j'ai entendu à Marseille en 2008 ?

  • ugh !!!!

  • Looks just like the Wilson Lohengrin -- which looks just like Wilson's....and so on...
