Super Mario Galaxy 2 - World 3 Theme on piano.

I recorded this with the camera built-in to the MacBook Pro. The audio quality isn't very good because as it turns out, I don't have an aux cable or a set of long 1/4" cables w/ an adapter, so I can't put the audio from the keyboard direct-in when recording a movie, not yet anyway.

This is the like the first time I ever used iMovie, so feel free to laugh it up.

Anyway, I intentionally set the quality only to 360p because I'm a little bit self-conscious about the fact that I need a shave and haircut. Not that it makes much of a difference; as I'm far past my days of acne, the only difference you'd see really would be stubble in greater clarity...

BTW, I will be moving to a new channel soon. If you've friended and/or subscribed me, don't worry, I'll make an announcement pointing to said channel when I do that.

Oh yeah, and if you're looking for sheet music, I did this by ear.. and usually don't take the time to notate stuff, but with this, you're in luck, mostly:

I -did- notate some sheet music for it which you can also find on this channel, but it's missing a few notes, one in a couple different chords (just imperfections in voicing; doesn't compromise the harmony or anything). There are comments left by me on that vid explaining the two minor imperfections, but even if you can't understand those comments, the sheet music should still sound just fine played as is.

It's the video uploaded before this one (I think).

That being said though, to my knowledge, this recording has the whole thing 100% note-for-note correct (unlike my ~99% correct sheet music).

How do you like the new Zelda?

  • @fuzybear15 RE: Skyward Sword

Like I said, there was some billing address problem when I tried to pre-order, but now I'm just going to Fry's to buy it straight from the store. I called ahead, and they're holding it for me until 6 tonight.

FINALLY I will have the new Zelda I've been waiting for for years...

I'll let you know how I like it once I've gotten 'round to playing it a bit. =)

BTW, remember how I rated your "version" 3.5/5? That was me trying to be nice. If you care to know my REAL rating of the quality, it's closer to 1 or 0.5 out of 5.

I'm not saying any of this for the sake of argument; I'm saying it because your "version" really is screwed up, and you seem to be both ignorant to that fact as well as stubborn about it.

You can say all the nice things you want to me, but it's not going to change my thoughts on your highly botched version.

The most damning thing about your version (and nearly everyone else's too, for some reason) is how you play a B natural instead of B flat during the B-section (no pun intended). How can that not sound wrong, even if one doesn't have a SUPER refined ear? Neither my fiancée nor I were fooled by "your version," but then again, we're both trained, life-long musicians.

  • @MamaMiaPianist

And again, the only reason it doesn't sound pedally enough for you is because of the low audio quality; from what you've been saying, it seems like a) you haven't been reading much of what I said, and b) there seems to be a chance I may even know a lot a LOT more than you about audio editing, so please do not continually try to give me "advice" that I clearly already know (I thought I was clear already about that).

  • @MamaMiaPianist

Nothing can ever literally be perfect, of course, but you're failing to realize here that it IS possible for a rendition of a piano piece by ear to be perfect in the sense that all the notes are the exact same notes from the original version. THAT is what I meant.

"Your version" is wrong. Accept it. My fiancée was cringing at every mistake you made when I played her "your version" a few minutes ago, too.

And of course, the swordplay in Skyward Sword is exactly what a lot of people were expecting Twilight Princess to have. It's amazing.

The attention to detail in the game design is amazing, there are multiple easter eggs for big Zelda fans like myself to enjoy, the music is great as always, and the controls are excellent... All that is just the tip of the iceberg... Anyone who plays video games and wants a full life needs to play Skyward Sword before they die... lol.

Our new awesome red Wii arrived a few days ago and Skyward Sword is BEYOND AMAZING!

By far the best Zelda yet... possibly the best action-adventure game ever made yet by anyone, period...

Sorry, for clarification, the aforementioned reverb was added to real piano recordings (some tracks with the Steinway, others with a mellow Baldwin we had to sell a few years ago), not to keyboard recordings.

If you're interested, some 128kbps MP3 versions of some decent takes of most of those pieces are on my Soundclick / Facebook artist page music tab (the "Beach" recording is the album version, except for it being mp3 that is).

  • @msmartelpiano

Although... now that I think of it, I added a light touch of reverb to every single track on my first album 'Reminiscence'... and it sounds pretty good.

It's just too bad my 1926 Steinway — my REAL piano — is at my mom's house an hour drive away. Blarg.

Gotcha, I know what you're talking about now; my keyboard is actually set on the maximum reverb setting in this vid, believe it or not. It has 4 levels (room, hall, stage, auditorium) and they're all really weak.

I've been doing sound editing for about a decade now, and a little dabbling in video editing in more recent years. I know full well how to master audio / add effects, etc. But I thought adding reverb in the post-processing would be kinda cheating somehow I guess.

  • @msmartelpiano By the way, I am not angry on you and I am not saying that you made mistakes. It's just that our versions are diffrent. None is wrong or "good".

And I do like it! By the way, if you want some more reverb, you can do it in a few diffrent ways. You can edit the track in software like sonar or ableton or logic. But you can also try to get the option reverb on your keyboard.
