Lucasarts has released a new developer diary for the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. This particular video focuses on the development of the new characters created for the game. So far, it looks like they really put a lot of effort into making some fairly deep characters with rich backgrounds. The story will take place between Episodes 3 and 4, with you playing Darth Vader's secret apprentice. The actor playing the apprentice has described him as essentially the sort of person Luke Skywalker might've become had he agreed to join up with Vader. And in keeping with the general Star Wars structure, he'll also have a love interest and a comical side-kick in the forms of an imperial officer and a droid respectively.

The video also shows how they did the character animation using technology from Industrial Light and Magic. It already looks impressive, as the character models look almost exactly like the actors playing them. This also made recording sessions more like a movie shoot, as they were required to perform a variety of facial expressions as well.

Yeah, I've only seen a little bit of gameplay, but this is already on my "Must Buy on Opening Day" list when it hits store shelves this November.

  • they need to make it so theres no love interest. im sick of every game i play the badass character has a soft side. How bout make him ALL ruthless

  • Crysis is one epic exception though. Most games you can buy now that are multi platform look/run better on gaming PC's...but thats to be expected they do cost more, and it takes a small amount of effort to maintain a smooth, error free PC. The consoles are great at what they do, they run every game on them nearly without flaw, but until PC gaming truly does die (which I doubt will be any time soon), I won't bother buying a console.
