Belarus metro bombers sentenced to die

Two men have been sentenced to death in Belarus for carrying out a series of attacks including the bombing of the country's metro system in April.

Twelve people were killed and hundreds were injured in Minsk in what was one of the deadliest attacks in the country since the Second World War.

Prosecutors claim the men carried out the attack because they disagreed with the leadership of the nation's autocratic president, Alexander Lukashenko.

But human rights activists say the trial is a farce, based on weak evidence and forced confessions, which they say is an attempt to discredit the country's political opposition.
