  • The reason people didn't smile in old photos is because of the camera's exposure time. They had to hold their pose for several minutes and it was easier to do so with an expressionless face than to smile for any length of time. Photographs and other forms of ephemera should be handled with gloved hands because the natural oils on your skin will transfer to the paper and cause it to deteriorate more rapidly.

  • so bad it's good

  • I turned this video off after 30 seconds. I was hoping to get some insight from an expert. This woman doesn't know what she's talking about. Carte de vistas isn't a word. It's carte de visite (cart day vizeat). And what she's holding up is called a cabinet card. A carte de visite is smaller.

  • I like pictures of cars,, like people standing next to them!

  • The Flash from those days would make anyone frown!!!

  • people never smiled back then lol my great grandpa has a picture of his mom and dad with they're dog and they're facial expressions look like they're having the worst times of they're lives lol

  • Too bad your store is in CA. I'm in PA & I'd love to check your store out. I have one of those old leather photo albums with many old photos, some with the old tax stamps on the back. One photo in the book is of Mrs. Lincoln, though it has no stamp & nothing printed on the back, she's also in black so I'm thinking it's not wprth much. I'm actually off to Gettysburg next Sat, to have it looked at.
