  • @Atheist2006 its usually considered a southern state

  • Is Kentucky a Southern State or a Midwestern State?

  • @251to502 That's because Southern Democrats are conservative Democrats (a.k.a. Blue Dogs).

  • @jjlucash Yes!

  • @jjlucash I'd say it's a moderately conservative state. Democrats are the majority in terms of registered voters, but there is a lot of split-ticketing that goes on in general elections in which some Democrats would vote for a Republican.

  • @jjlucash

    Very much.

  • Is Kentucky a hard-Right state??

  • As for Fayette County (Lexington), it is more of a swing county in national elections. In 2004, George Bush won Fayette by 7 points, but Obama picked it up by 5, despite losing the state by 16.2%.

  • Jefferson County used to be reliably Republican, but had been trending Democratic. Since 1992, Jefferson County has voted Democratic in presidential elections. That county was Bill Clinton's boost to narrowly winning Kentucky, even when Mitch McConnell won Jefferson County and went on to hold his Senate seat against then candidate-turned governor Steve Beshear in 1996.

  • So what should they say? NBC News projects the election to John McCain?
