chaotic pendulum

I built this using steel and radial bearings. The intent was to demonstrate complicated and non-deterministic behavior with a mechanism that was obviously simple. Most of the work went into the sanding of the metal, which ended up quite smooth. The form was meant to be as minimal as possible, to contrast with the complex behavior exhibited. This was cut together from three different trials of swinging, edited to be unobtrusive. When left swinging on its own, it will exhibit chaotic behavior for around 5-7 minutes. I cut together three different shots to show the behavior as the amplitude of the swing decreases at a suitable camera angle for each phase. Put your own music with it. its better that way
