Green Day New Album Preview - 21st Century Breakdown

Hey guys! Coming to you from our Beverly Hills headquarters, I'm Dana Ward and we've got the scoop on the latest LP from Green Day.

The anticipated 8th studio album from the band is hitting the industry on May 15th. It's called 21st Century Breakdown and the band is already busy spreading the word on a pre-release string of performances. Green Day has been playing the new tracks for fans all over the place, hoping to keep up with its last hit in 2004, American Idiot, which sold more than 12-million copies.

This latest from Green Day is certainly a planned production - I mean, the entire album is a narrative. The music tells the story of a young couple named Christian and Gloria. In fact, the new album is all set-to-go with 3-acts, using some whitty, opposite-natured names: 'Heroes and Cons', 'Charlatans and Saints' and 'Horseshoes and Handgrenades'.

The first single, this round, from the multi-platinum trio is titled, 'Know Your Enemy', and it hit on April 16th. And the track's music vid was directed by Motion Theory's Matthew Cullen and it debuted April 24th on MTV and VH1 in the first-ever cross-network video premiere.

A few tracks to pay attention to include, '21 Guns', 'East Jesus Nowhere', 'Before the Lobotomy' and 'Restless Heart Syndrome'.

Some critics are saying there's a bit of disappointment linked to '21st Century Breakdown' because it sounds quite similar to the band's 2004 LP. However, others are dishing that listeners need to really understand that narrative storyline we were talking about, BEFORE really being able to delve into the lyrics.

So, we're asking, what do you think about the new Green Day album? Are you a 21st Century Breakdown critic or a fan?

Go to the Clevver website to see music videos and clips from Green Day and the rest of your favorite artists. I'm Dana Ward, thanks for watching.

  • love this album. but who's to say it isn't punk? billie joe said it himself that to him, punk is a freedom of expression and has no certain limitations. that's why he loves it so much. so who cares if he moved away from the traditional punk? it's still green day, and you aren't fans if you're bashing the cd. like it, hate it, there's just no point in saying it's not punk.

  • I don't think it sounds ANY similar to American idiot..how could people sy that when the album hadn;t even come out then?
