Pepsis Wasps AKA Tarantula Hawks Slow Motion Flight

Sit back and SAFELY watch these huge wasps go about their business... A spectacular orange-winged insect with a metallic velvet-purple body, these Pepsid Wasps (also known as "Tarantula Hawks") feed primarily on flower nectar as adults, and are always attracted to these fragrant yellow Scale Broom flowers, along with many other insects.

Tarantula Hawk females grow larger than the males, and can reach up to 3 inches in length! They get their name because the females attack, sting and paralyze large tarantula spiders. They then drag the paralyzed victim to an underground burrow and lay a single egg in the tarantula's body, where the wasp larva will then hatch and feed on it. After completing its metamorphosis, the adult wasp will then dig its way out of the underground chamber and start its life cycle anew.

The sting of this insect is said to be one of the most powerful of all wasps... While not usually fatal to a person unless extremely allergic to it, the pain would most certainly be unbearable X-[

These wasps are males. You can tell by the straight antennae. Females have coiled ones. Really. And males don't have stingers. But the females sometimes feed on these blossoms, too.
