Energise Your Future - Norwich 2008

Energise Your Future is a unique interactive careers and lifestyle event that showcases the depth and breadth of career opportunities the oil and gas/energy sector has to offer individuals.

On the 16th December 2008, school pupils from across the East of England found out what its like to be a deep sea diver, how it feels to wear an offshore survival suit and how drillers find oil and gas deposits beneath the seabed during our event in December.

Around 350 youngsters from Norwich, Ipswich, Lowestoft and beyond took part in the careers and lifestyle event at the University of East Anglia where former Blue Peter presenter and adventure addict Gethin Jones gave a talk about his own exciting career.

Around 30 local engineering firms, operators, drillers, marine specialists and learning providers attended the event which was the first fully interactive careers fair for the energy sector to take place in the East of England.

Pupils got the chance to make their own deep sea diving vessels, try their hand at finding oil and gas deposits on a seismic survey simulator, take part in a life-raft challenge and beat the clock by putting on an offshore survival suit before the time runs out. Challenges and workshops were also staged throughout the day to help young people discover the huge number of opportunities in a variety of careers the energy industry has to offer.

This event provided stimulating and practical experiences and information on the huge scope of employment opportunities to the next generation.
