@GospelAccording2ME Yeah...time will do that. Same principle with basketball players. Michael Jordan can still shut down the basketball court but his knees and ankles have been around the block one too many times.

@RanjitMorey Thank you for saying that. Mariah is one of the very few singers who you can call a musician. And a virtuoso musician at that. Even though there is a time and a place for everything, you'll NEVER EVER see a true musician substitute musicianship and tone for volume.

@junior2004hasz Are you serious? Only someone truly stupid and pressed would sit down, go to Youtube, pull up a Mariah Carey video and seriously go to the comments section and post a comment stating that Carey AND Houston are bad singers.
You can't be serious. You can't be...

@RanjitMorey Not that much of a fan of Jewel, which is why her version of this song surprised me. I'm just sick of hearing screeching howler monkeys like Carey, Houston, etc.. wail and scream and try to pass themselves off as 'artists". They're just bad singers.

When she's doing these complex harmonies in the high chest register, she has to sing a bit differently. She can't project like how whitney does on a normal steady note. If you wanna hear that, go to VOL, Make it happen performances. Don't go to Open arms, this, Joy to the world and say, oh, see, she doesn't have power. Carey never substitutes correct pitch and pleasantness of tones she produces to sound loud and powerful - unlike almost all the acclaimed singers.

@junior2004hasz off key? Lol. You haven't even heard her studio version of it and you decide this performance is off key? This performance is shows how much of a virtuoso she is. Obviously, you are a big fan of Jewel. That's good. But don't say things which make you look a bit stupid.
Her belts are magnificent in this performance! It sounded like she was singing Cant Let Go.I actually like this version better than the album version hands down. Mariah's Emotion's era vocals were quite a force to be reckoned with because they were jazzy, powerful and soulful at the same time. I can only imagine how the other songs on her Merry Christmas album would've sounded had she recorded it in this era! Pure magic!!!
