A Hupfata - Kgl. Bayr. Inf.-Reg. Hartmann, Kgl. Musikdirektor E.Burow, Nürnberg, Polyphon Record, ca 1910 (Prussia)

NOTE: A Hupfata (Klarinett-Polka) is a famous polka composed in Austria, by a certain A. Humpfat in the end of the XIXth century. Its simple and catchy melody immediately conquered Central European "kurort-promenades" as well as it appeared on the records. In Russia it was known under the title - God knows why - "A Grandpa" (Died'ka). I also met its contemporary Polish version entitled "A Flea". So, as it seems it had no specific title and often was catalogued simply as "Klarinett-Polka". The recording I uploaded was made shortly before WWI by some military band from Nuremberg.

  • The name Humpfat sounds funny in English, but the montage and music are first rate and well-coordinated.

  • Hi B! I love that photo of a brass ensemble at 0:15! Each of them is such a different character, their faces are so expressive. And all of them are so appealing & funny. They look just like a modern male band, disguised a la mode of 1910.

  • I'm Dutch. But my point is.. I like to look longer to you pictures.

  • I'm sorry :-)) OK, I will remember your suggestions when uploading next clips. Thank you :-))

  • Your pictures are beautifull, but too fast.

Is it possible you take a few less pictures, so you have more time to look?

    Less is more. Greetings Hein

  • Hello Heinbanjo! I understand how annoying must have been for a German, trying to read what's written on those lovely old German viewcards! Indeed, they are moving quite fast, but my idea was to keep up their speed with the alert rhythm of the polka.

  • I close my eyes and clearly visualize a young Hitler jumping about to this tune

  • 1:16 What are in these bottles on the left side?)))

  • Uplifting tune and cheerful polka dancers, especially the men at 1:09 who seem to be ecstatically happy.
