Common once lamented that hip-hop had sold out – “But once the man got you well he altered the native. Told her if she got an image and a gimmick, that she could make money, and she did it like a dummy. Now I see her in commercials, she’s universal . . . .” Then he went on to do a ton of commercials. And that is why people call Common a sell out.
Personally, I think that he's allowed to get money any way he can. Also, I think he's a fairly decent actor.

Common is more than a MC/ rapper & I wish people would stop trying to box him in. If he doesn't do all hip hop & nothing else, he's suddenly a sellout! Give me a damn break! So basically you all are saying that he's not allowed to grow & branch out into other things?
And please stop with the illuminati crap! Not every artist sells their soul for a dollar. Common is a very spiritual man & he will always be a classic no matter what!
