Alternate Focus interviews Nurit Peled-Elhanan, author of the forthcoming book Palestine in Israeli School Books: Ideology and Propaganda in Education. Nurit Peled-Elhanan argues that the textbooks used in the school system are laced with a pro-Israel ideology, and that they play a part in priming Israeli children for military service. She analyzes the presentation of images, maps, layouts and use of language in History, Geography and Civic Studies textbooks, and reveals how the books might be seen to marginalize Palestinians, legitimize Israeli military action and reinforce Jewish-Israeli territorial identity.

  • Real asshole Falsetinian liar!

  • @rickfdez bcz Israel was established over others'land ,and the indigenous population refuse to leave their land

  • This is another affirmation of Israel's intent to continue with the ethnic cleansing of Palestine.

    Thank you.

  • Thank you

  • @rickfdez You are absurd and out of context. The racism in this country is thick in the air. Denying the pluralism that exists all around you is the core of racism. This bullshit zionist narrative of a "demographic" threat is the very definition of racism. Go ahead and compare Israel to other racist nations. It won't change the fact that it's wrong.

  • This is an interesting approach to viewing the Palestinian-Israeli dynamic. Socialization occurs in all countries, but Peled-Elhanan's study highlights the importance of textbooks shown to children at early ages. Ironic that Palestinians are always mentioned as a "problem" or "threat" basically as a collective and not as people. A textbook should not read as a military manifest, promoting verbal and visual racist discourse.

  • I really liked this video because it presents an alternate view of the Palestinian/Israel conflict. It shows that information in textbooks is biased and not factual. Education is really key to maintenance or challenging existing narratives and like Nurit Peled-Elhanan states in the video it is easier to maintain narratives, than to challenge them. Justification of killing Palestinians and taking their land for the greater state of Israel via textbooks is a real tragedy.

  • Why is Israel criticized for identifying and consolidating its national identity, exactly as other countries do without apology? Doesn't every single European ... and every Arab/Muslim country, for that matter, give prominence to its citizens, legitimize its military actions and reinforce their citizens identities? When Israel acts like other countries do, it is attacked as racist. This is absurd and proof only of the racism of those who criticize Israel. Her views are taken out of context.
