Yes, the remake changes the story beyond recognition. It was terrible. But at least we got a lot of good laughs out of the remake because of the bumbling ineptness of the makers.

Fully agreed. The remake was a horrid insult to the first, and it departed vastly from the original point of the film. I thought the director should publicly apologize for claiming it was a "faithful" adaptation when he set the story in a completely different place, with a different background, with a completely different /reason/ for everything being done, and then just stole dialog from the original.
