Ingredients: 4 eggs, beaten, 1/3 cup of milk, 2 teaspoons of salt, 2 cups of all-purpose flour. Mix together. Dough will be sticky. Bring 2 quarts of salted water to a boil. Spray spatzle maker with nonstick cooking spray. Place spaetzle maker over pot and pour dough inside of holder on spaetzle maker. Slide back and forth over boiling water. Spaetzle is ready when floats. Remove with slotted spoon, drain. Add 1 tablespoon of butter.

  • @theliberator

that's the way my grandfather who was born in Germany used to pronounce it, but I don't think it's that big a deal.

  • Hi danskmacabre,

Your paprika chicken sounds yummy! I saw a video here on YT, I think it was from Germany of someone using the dough on a chopping board and putting it right into the boiling water. She was very fast! I don't think I could do it that way!

    Take care

  • "You don't have to repeat me honey"! Love it.

  • You must use extra large eggs. Mine was a bit dryer than yours. I have chickens so have my own eggs. Not sure how big they are but they must be a medium to large egg. I'll try adding 5 eggs next time. Love the King Arthur flour spoon/whisk. I may have to order one of those if they have them online.

  • @kadeGibson it is pronounced as shpaet-ze-leh

  • I've never used that many eggs in mine, but the structure/shape of yours look perfect...I'm definitely trying your recipe, thanks!

  • Niemals, nevernevernever Milk/ Milch in Spätzlesteig! Niemals! Niemals eine Maschine nehmen! Never take a machine! NO MILK!!!!! And Spätzla are coming from Schwaben - Germany- Baden- Württemberg!!!

  • Thank you for this recipe! My friend in Germany just sent me her recipe and I was afraid I'd have to figure out how much 250 grams offf flour is.

  • @kadeGibson I honestly think it's fine the way she pronounces it but I've heard it differently from yours too, and I've spent the last 10 summers in Germany. German language rule would say that it's pronounced Shpaetz-leyh. The "e" on the end is pronounced - this isn't english.

  • It is pronounced spet-szchel not spetzel

  • They ran out of spaetzle at Octoberfest in LaCrosse....I didn't get any. Poor me :-(

  • Love this, love the recipe and the presentation, it was like learning how to cook Spaetzl from my mom.

  • My mother taught me to use my egg shell to measure my water, that way whatever size egg you use you will have the correct amount of water! (You will use more than one egg, so choose the shell that is closest to 1/2 it's original size as sometimes they can crack uneven.) Hope you will try it.
