This Ray Jefferson 660/ADF is an automatic direction finder made in the 1970's. It utilized a pre-GPS radio technology, in which a marine or air navigator would home in on radio beacons. The device's bearing to two or more known antennas would be marked on a chart, giving one's position. this unit is probably as good as they got, before the technology became obsolete. The radio could receive CB, AM broadcast, VHF marine and FM, in addition to the beacon band... although it only could find the direction to beacon and broadcast antennas. Another ADF video is at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f3ukW7ns7Jg And for more information on RDF/ADF's, visit: http://www.angelfire.com/space/proto57/rdf.html This Ray Jeff was a kind gift from Jerry G. in Vermont. Thanks!

  • Great video, I have a Fujion F-3000E digital d.f. set. I'll be posting a video of it in the next few days :-)

  • Peter: I saw your video (wsoyg1Mz9yU) of the Fujion... nice unit. I added a comment there with more info. Be sure to check out my collection, which is linked in the description to this video. Thanks for the comments... Rich.

  • Cool RDF Unit! Where did you get it from?

  • Cool collection you have :) I got a Ray Jeff 670 for a trade years ago. It's digital readout LW/AM/FM bands. It's a great DX toy. Uses 8 D cells for power. In California,I've picked out the Russian LW broadcasters from their Far East coast, and the MW band is selective enough to pick out one Japanese AM station on 594 kHz.

It's much better at LW/MW dx than most consumer multi-band radios out there today. Gene

  • A Ray Jeff 670/RDF came with a 1976 sailboat that I bought a few years ago. It's too cool to throw away but I doubt I'll ever use it.

  • Interesting piece of kit:-))))

  • Hi Rich, thank you for your comment on my video and thanks for the info on my d.f. Rx. You have a fantastic website. Keep up the good work and thank you again.

    Regards

    Peter.
